Experience in cognitive and personality testing (particularly Rorschach with Exner scoring) with a patient population is required.

Description of Externship

The 2017-2018 academic year will be split, with one half of the year focusing on broad based experience conducting psychological assessments throughout the inpatient and outpatient services and the other half of the year being devoted to one inpatient rotation (approximately 3-4 months). On the inpatient rotation, students can choose between child, adolescent, or adult inpatient unit where they will provide individual, group, and family therapy. Prospective candidates who are interested in bilingual Spanish assessments are particularly encouraged to apply due to the rich opportunity to conduct such assessments.

Our training occurs in the context of a multi-ethnic urban hospital. The patient population is ethnically and culturally diverse. Patients come from many different Latino, European and Asian communities and our catchment area is one of the most diverse in New York City. This lends a multi-cultural dimension to our training and we emphasize the understanding of psychopathology from different cultural perspectives
