Start Date: early September

Appropriate for:

Doctoral student, with a masters degree, from APA accredited clinical or counseling psychology program.


Scheduling (e.g., required/optional days of week, # hrs per day, total hours per week, flexibility in scheduling):

12-16 hours-Some flexibility in scheduling. Mandatory team meeting on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 Preferred days: Monday and Thursday

Must have a clinical masters degree with at least one year of clinical experience and course work completed prior to placement.

Description of Externship

The Center for Behavioral Health is an outpatient, mental health facility which is part of the JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ. Mental health staff consists of 3 psychologists, 3 social workers, and one psychiatrist who work from a cognitive-behavioral and/or psychodynamic orientation. There are also 4 clinicians working in the substance abuse division. The student will provide mental health assessments, and individual, group and family therapy. Some group work with substance abuse patients also available. 1 extern position available for 2017/2018.

A criminal backround check and proof of immunizations are required before students begin placement. It is recommended that students take no more than 2 weeks of vacation/personal time in addition to the legal and religious holidays that are offered.
