General Information

Start Date: September 4th, 2018
End Date: August 31st, 2019
Appropriate for: Clinical
Scheduling (e.g., required/optional days of week, # hrs per day, total hours per week, flexibility in scheduling):

Five days per week are required, Monday - Friday, approx. 3 hrs / day, 12 - 3 (PM1 Team); 3 - 6 (PM2 Team)

Required level of readiness (any prior experiences or level of training required for applicants):

Advanced Ph.D. / Psy.D. level students only, 12 months of prior externship / practicum training

Preferred level of readiness(any prior experiences preferred for applicants):

Prior experience with personality disorders, psychodynamic psychotherapy, mentalization-based therapy and / or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Is there a stipend for externs? No

Description of Externship

Populations commonly served:

  • Adults diagnosed with a personality disorder
CITPD offers specialized, intensive, multidimensional / multivariable treatment for a full spectrum of personality disorders and personality-related symptoms and interpersonal problems, including, but not limited to, recurrent affect / impulse / cognition / behavior dysregulation(s), identity / self-image problems, dissociative symptoms, sexual / gender-identity problems, chronic suicidality and self-injurious behaviors

Training models offered:

Multidimensional-Multivariable Treatment based on:

  • Intensive Psychodynamic Therapy
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy [DBT]
  • Mentalization-Based Therapy
  • Cognitive Therapy
  • Psychopharmacology

Intervention training experiences commonly offered:

  • Individual Psychotherapy
  • Intensive Group Therapy (3x/week)
  • Crisis Interventions

Expected number of cases seen at any one time: Two (2) individual patients


Assessment training experiences commonly offered:

Comprehensive Assessment of new patients
Full psychological testing battery
  • WAIS IV
  • WMS IV
  • MMPI-2-RF
  • MCMI IV
  • DAPP-BQ (if available)
  • TAT
  • Rorschach (R-PAS)

Expected number of full assessment batteries completed during externship (defined as administration of a battery of standardized tests): Three (3)
Expected number of assessment reports completed during externship (defined as writing reports based on a battery of standardized tests: Three (3)


Supervision:

Estimated hours/week of individual supervision: 1 hour
