Attention Deficit Hyperactivity & Behavior Disorders 3-Month Summer Externship General Information

The NYU Child Study Center is seeking graduate students (previous behavioral/cbt experience preferred), for a Three-Month Externship at the NYU Summer Program for Kids (SPK). The SPK is a seven-week, intensely structured, behaviorally robust, evidence-based day camp for children with ADHD. The SPK is one of the few such programs in the nation, having its origins in federally funded treatment outcome research. This position is located at the NYU Child Study Center NY and Lake Success offices for four weeks and at the College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, NY for seven weeks. Karen Fleiss, Psy. D.., is the main contact at the Long Island campus.

Trainees in the ADHD Three-Month Externship will receive exposure with children diagnosed with ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and other conditions resulting in disruptive behavior. As patients frequently present with comorbidity, our extern will also likely have exposure to patients with Anxiety Disorders, ASD, LD, and other conditions. At the SPK, externs will have the opportunity to create behavioral treatments designed to effect change, improve social and coping skills, and build positive self-esteem; interface with outside clinicians, and be involved in crisis management. Externs will also have the opportunity to collect observational data to plan interventions and assess treatment gains.
