Description of Externship

Populations commonly served:

Adolescents generally aged 10-20 years old in a school-based primary care clinic



Training models offered:

CBT
Psychodynamic



Intervention training experiences commonly offered:

Behavioral Health Screening, Suicide Risk Assessment and Intervention Planning
Crisis Interventions (including assessment for abuse and other high risk issues)
Supportive Individual Psychotherapy in collaboration with a primary care provider
Group Therapy
Family Therapy
Parent Support, Classroom-based primary prevention
Psychodynamic and CBT treatment approaches and a range of therapeutic interventions

If any of these intervention experiences are only available to students under certain circumstances, please indicate:

Externs will carry a caseload of 3-5 patients with a range of diagnoses. Externs will participate in screening new clinic patients for behavioral concerns. Externs will complete intake assessments. Externs may co-facilitate classroom presentations and psychotherapy groups. Some opportunities for family therapy may be available
