Externship Overview


The Bipolar Track of the specialized Ambulatory Centers utilizes the latest interventions with patients meeting criteria for primary diagnosis Bipolar Disorder. Externs will be trained and supervised in the evidence-based psychotherapy modality of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Interpersonal Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT). The extern responsibilities include conducting diagnostic interviews, providing individual therapy and co-leading group therapy for this population and their family members. Individual and group supervision are provided by experts in Bipolar Disorder. Externs participate in weekly didactics covering issues related to treatment and professional development. Requirements: A minimum of a two days per week time commitment is required (Tuesday afternoons/evenings and Wednesdays) for a total of 16 hours per week. One extern slot is expected for 2022-23. To Apply to the Centers Bipolar Externship Track The applicant must be a candidate for the Ph.D. or Psy.D. in a psychology program in clinical, counseling, school or other relevant area of professional psychology, or be enrolled in a qualified re-specialization program. The applicant should have at least one year of prior externship or practicum experience (i.e., for most applicants, they will be in the third or fourth year of graduate school).
