Academics West

Provide description of Externship:

The Therapeutic Educational Program (TEP), is an accredited K - 12 academic program that provides a flexible and supportive learning environment that can serve as an alternative to a traditional school setting. Academics West provides intensive support for children and adolescents who need a customized therapeutic educational program based on their learning profile and emotional needs.

The doctoral student may take part in a broad array of training experiences that areintegral to Academics West's Therapeutic Educational Program (TEP). The TEP program provides both comprehensive educational and clinical support to students as part of our wrap-around model. This milieu allows doctoral students to interact with clients as part of a therapeutic school setting. Activities involve delivering individual and group therapy, developing behavior plans, conducting initial clinical intakes and assessments, and attending weekly didactic sessions on evidence-based clinical practice as well as on our proprietary model of educational intervention Clinically Informed Academics (CIA). This experience is an excellent opportunity for doctoral students to gain experience with a broad range of psychological, behavioral and learning disorders in a school setting.
