Pre-Doctoral Externships are part-time, one-year appointments in which candidates receive in-depth training in rational-emotive and cognitive-behavior therapy, serve as therapists in the Albert Ellis Institute's clinic, co-lead group therapy and public workshops, receive 3 hours of individual and 2 hours of group supervision a week, conduct psychological evaluations, and participate in Albert Ellis Institute research.

Interview process (provide information about interview process- time frame, how decisions are made) Also, do you conduct individual and/or group interviews; case presentation, other information?: Forty-five-minute individual interviews conducted by Director, Director of Professional Education, and Director of Psychological Evaluations. Decisions are based on candidate's qualifications and goodness of fit to the Albert Ellis Institute.
What application materials are required (i.e., cv, transcript, how many reference letters, case summary, test report, other?: Albert Ellis Institute requires completion of an online application, a CV with cover letter, two letters of recommendation, eligibility letter from the University, and case summary or assessment report.
Intervention and Assessment:
Intervention training experiences offered: Estimate average number of individual patients that students will carry; estimate number of groups and other types of interventions. Offer description: Students are estimated to carry approximately 10 individual patients, co-lead weekly 2-hour group therapy, attend one hour of didactics, and conduct one-hour weekly institute research.
Assessment training experiences commonly offered. Describe: Psychological and Psychoeducational assessment including administration of tests of cognitive abilities, academic achievement, personality, attention, executive function, and behavioral and social-emotional functioning.
Expected number of full assessment batteries completed during externship (defined as administration of a battery of standardized tests): Approximately 5 assessment batteries.
