Provide description of Externship:

BronxCare is a voluntary, nonprofit general hospital composed of several geographically separate but centrally administered facilities in the South Central part of the Bronx. BronxCare is a teaching hospital founded on an unwavering commitment to meet the needs of its community, providing quality health care to those in need, regardless of their ability to pay. The externship program is an integral part of the Department of Psychiatry and provides psychological evaluation as well a suicide and violence risk assessments to the entire BronxCare Health System. The Department of Psychiatry is a comprehensive unit which services adults, children and adolescents. This hospital has 3 adult inpatient units and the only acute child/adolescent unit in the Bronx. Externs learn a model of consultation and work closely with a multidisciplinary team.

Decisions will be made following externship guidelines for offers.

Intervention and Assessment:
Intervention training experiences offered: Estimate average number of individual patients that students will carry; estimate number of groups and other types of interventions. Offer description: Students will see on average on patient per week for evaluation purposes. This is an assessment only externship. Students will not conduct individual or group psychotherapy.  
Assessment training experiences commonly offered. Describe:  This externship focuses on psychological assessment in addition to suicide and violence risk assessment. All students will conduct a clinical diagnostic interview and then administer several psychological tests from various domains including: Neuropsychological screening, personality, cognitive, and forensic.  Students will also be trained in providing therapeutic feed
