Minimum level of readiness (any prior experiences or level of training required for applicants): This externship is appropriate for advanced level doctoral students (i.e., 3rd or 4th year students) in clinical, counseling, school, or combined graduate psychology programs.
Preferences: Applicants should have prior experience with CBT, DBT, and/or other evidence-based treatments.
Do you provide a stipend? If so how much?: A transportation stipend equal to 50% of the cost of a monthly MetroCard will be provided to externs.
When do you expect to begin interviews? (Applications can be submitted no earlier than Jan 22): Applications will be accepted starting January 22, 2019 until 6pm on February 21, 2019. We will be holding interviews on a rolling basis starting the first week of February and continuing for approximately 3-4 weeks.
Interview process (provide information about interview process- time frame, how decisions are made) Also, do you conduct individual and/or group interviews; case presentation, other information?: Once applications have been reviewed, qualified applicants will be invited to our Manhattan office to interview with Dr. Campbell and 1 other senior level clinician. Interviews will be conducted on an individual basis for 30 minutes each. Schedule permitting, externship candidates will have the opportunity to see our Manhattan clinic and meet with any additional staff members or trainees who are on site and available at the time of the interview.
What application materials are required (i.e., cv, transcript, how many reference letters, case summary, test report, other?: Cover letter, CV, 2 letters of recommendation, and DCT letter of eligibility. Intervention and Assessment:
Intervention training experiences offered: Estimate average number of individual patients that students will carry; estimate number of groups and other types of interventions. Offer description: On average each week, externs can expect to carry a caseload of 6-8 individual therapy patients, collaborate with senior clinicians in order to provide adjunctive therapy on 1-2 IOP cases, and co-lead a DBT skills group for adults or adolescents.
Assessment training experiences commonly offered. Describe: Externs will conduct structured and semi-structured intake and diagnostic assessments with children, adolescents, and adults. Externs can expect to complete 1-2 assessments per week.

Context of didactics (seminars, Grand Rounds): Externs will participate in weekly grand rounds and, depending on availability, may also participate in didactic seminars, case conferences, and DBT team consultation meetings.
Estimated informal open door "curbside" supervision: Informal supervision opportunities are numerous. Externs will be able to receive supervision from externship supervisors or other senior clinicians as needed, and will frequently have the chance to consult with licensed clinical staff members working not only in our Manhattan clinic but also in our Brooklyn and Rockland County office locations as well.
Describe direct supervision. Specify if observation occurs during intervention, assessment, consultation (audio, video, live in person (in treatment room, one-way mirror, live video stream): Direct supervision takes place at least once per semester. Supervisors provide live supervision of intake and diagnostic assessments by sitting in on initial evaluation sessions. Direct supervision is also provided during intervention sessions through the use of video and audio recordings.
