Gender and Family Project Psychological Evaluation for Children and Adolescents Externship 

Provide description of Externship: 

Gender entity Assessment (evaluation for puberty blockers and/or hormones)
Assessment Report Writing
Mental Status Exam
Cognitive Assessment
Student may elect to complete other types of evaluation given experience level, interest, and discussion in supervision  This externship is geared toward an experienced student looking for specialized experience in the field of family therapy and LGBT mental health through assessment work. A full caseload of ongoing one-on-one therapy is not offered. The priority for extern will be evaluations. Please email Randi Kaufman RKaufman@ackerman.org with any questions/concerns, as there are opportunities to gain additional experience in English/Spanish.

Length of externship (in months): Sept - July

How many hours a week are expected of extern?: 16-20

Scheduling: 16 hours total. Mondays required (9-5 workday). There is some flexibility in scheduling on other day/days of the week i.e. half days on two days or some writing from home. It is preferred but not required for the extern to have availability 1 Friday evening per month to observe groups 

The minimum level of readiness (any prior experiences or level of training required for applicants: 

Must have psychological evaluation experience. Prefer some experience with families and children 


Preferences:  Some knowledge, experience, or demonstrated interest in transgender mental health needs for children and adolescents

Supervision:
