Provide description of Externship: This externship will provide extensive group therapy training. The focus of the externship will be on learning to run various groups including CBT, DBT, Skills Groups, Educational Groups as well as open ended process groups. Each site hosts a wide variety of programs including middle school, adolescent psychiatric, adolescent co-occurring, adult psychiatric, adult co-occurring and adult substance abuse programs. The externship will entail learning to run groups in each program of the site and being actively involved in the treatment of a diverse population of clients.
Trainees will also be able to observe and co-facilitate level of care assessments with licensed clinicians. This will entail observing and completing a full biopsychosocial as well as differential diagnosis and treatment recommendations.
Additionally, High Focus Centers has begun psychological batteries and assessments, so although there is no guaranteed number of assessments per student, we will have the externs involved in some aspects of the selection and interpretation of psychological batteries.
Please note, we have 7 locations throughout the state of New Jersey. The extern can be placed at the site that is most convenient to them but will need to be available to come to Summit for weekly supervision 1 x week on Wednesdays.
