Provide description of Externship:

Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center (KFPC) is offering a part-time (16-20 hour per week) externship in forensic psychology for  for the 2019-2020 academic year. KFPC  provides secure treatment and evaluation for the forensic patients (often with severe mental illness) and courts of New York City and Long Island. Most patients are received through the courts under Criminal Procedure Law (CPL) or through the OMH Commissioner's office via the New York State Code of Rules and Regulations (NYSCRR) regarding hospitalization of the mentally ill. Patients are admitted to Kirby primarily  for fitness restoration in order to stand trial for a crime they are accused of or are admitted following charges that are adjudicated not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. Treatment at Kirby is provided in accordance with the current standards of professional care outlined by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Organizations (JCAHO) and is carried out with respect for each patient's privacy and rights, in agreement with his/her level of functioning and need for security.
