Provide description of Externship:

The Parent-Infant Center (PIC) at the Child and Family Institute at Mt. Sinai St. Luke's is offering a one-year 16-hour per week externship position for two advanced externs with an interest in attachment theory, child-parent psychotherapy, infant and early childhood development and perinatal mental health. PIC is a prevention and treatment program that provides psychotherapeutic services to high-risk (e.g. trauma history, perinatal mood disorders) pregnant women, caregivers and their infants and toddlers (ages 0-4) through Child-Parent Psychotherapy, and individual therapy with pregnant women and adults.

Externs will carry approximately 5-6 cases.  The extern will conduct weekly intakes and will administer developmental screenings.  Externs will receive 2 hours of individual supervision (1 hour weekly with a licensed psychologist/externship coordinator and 1 hour weekly with a PIC fellow), group supervision (1 hour weekly with externship coordinator and psychology fellows) and ongoing group supervision of developmental screenings. The externs participate in intensive courses on Infant Mental Health and Child-Parent Psychotherapy.
