Mount Sinai West Adult Neuropsychology Externship

Provide description of Externship:

This is an opportunity for an extern to expand their neuropsychological assessment experience with neurological, neurosurgical, and general medical adult outpatient populations.  Pre-surgical and post-surgical evaluation of patients for DBS neurosurgeon are included.  The externship placement will include case conceptualization, conducting neuropsychological assessment, and developing treatment plans for adult patients in the outpatient practice. Experience with neuropsychological testing (WAIS-IV, memory tests, etc) is strongly preferred but further training on administration, scoring and interpretation of neuropsychological tests will be provided.  Didactics in the of case conferences, lectures, and grand rounds are a part of the training.   Coordination of supervision and didactics as well as interaction with other neuropsychology externs and postdocs across the health system will be provided.

Two full days a week, NOT Wednesdays

Intervention and Assessment:

Assessment training experiences commonly offered. Describe:

Assessment cases approximately 2 per week.   


Supervision:

Plans for supervision include group supervision with other neuropsychologists across the system.    Case presentations and lectures will be included.  

Opportunity to attend brain cutting at the main campus on Friday mornings.

Estimate hours/week of individual supervision:    1-2 hours per week
Estimated hours/week of group supervision:   1-2 hours per week :
Estimated hour/week of didactics:  1-2 per week (student dependent - options include grand rounds, brain cutting, etc.)
Estimated co-therapy hours with supervisors:  1 per week

Estimated informal open door "curbside" supervision:  all the time
Describe direct supervision:  The extern will demonstrate proficiency of testing, supervisor will observe testing with patients, trainee will review testing, scoring, and writing with the supervisor weekly.

The extern will be directly observed by the supervisor.
