New York-Presbyterian - Weill Cornell Medicine Track 3: Outpatient Cross - Lifespan Neuropsychology

Provide description of Externship:

NYP/WCM offers advanced externship training in neuropsychological assessment of children, adolescents, and adults in an outpatient psychiatric setting. The trainees’ core experience will be to learn about neurodevelopment and brain-behavior functioning in individuals across the lifespan. The patient population presents with a wide variety of functional impairments due to psychiatric and/or neurologic conditions. Trainees will be supervised by a board certified clinical neuropsychologist, with subspecialty board certification in pediatric neuropsychology. The trainees will also have the opportunity to attend neuropsychology didactics, clinical case conferences, and Psychiatry Grand Rounds and to present at clinical case conferences.

Case presentations will be included if time allows.

Describe direct supervision: Trainees are asked to present their patients and to summarize the data. Hypotheses and differential diagnoses are reviewed. Potential treatment recommendations are discussed. Any issues that presented are reviewed and strategies to resolve those problems are suggested.

Participation in the externship may increase the chances of attending the site's internship and/or fellowship program.

We will not be interviewing students concurrently applying for internship.

Students who extern at NYP's WCM sites must complete a health screening (including two PPDs) on the Westchester Campus prior to beginning the externship. The health screening includes drug testing.

Externs will also need to pass a background check before starting the externship.

NYP requires a completed Affiliation Agreement with each student's program. Many of the local NYC metro area school have an existing agreement with NYP. If there is not an existing agreement, we will work with your program to create one.
