Provide description of Externship:
The New York Presbyterian, Weill Cornell Medical College, the Personality Disorders Unit provides comprehensive dialectical behavioral and cognitive-behavioral treatment in an inpatient setting. The patient population presents with a wide variety of psychiatric diagnoses, including personality disorders and severe anxiety and mood disorders, psychotic disorders, in addition to co-morbid substance use disorders and dementia.
Briefly describe the activities performed by student under your guidance:
Trainees have the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary treatment team, promoting dialectical behavioral interventions through a variety of patient interactions. In addition, trainees are involved in conducting brief assessments (Hamilton Depression Rating Scales and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA)). The extern's core experience includes:
1. Co-leading daily DBT Groups in conjunction with the unit psychologist. In addition, trainees have the opportunity to provide brief, individual treatment to patients.
2. Attendance at morning unit rounds, daily team meetings, weekly case conference, and other didactic opportunities throughout the hospital.
3. Opportunity to work on research projects.

We are willing to interview students concurrently applying for internship.
Students who extern at New York Presbyterian's Cornell sites must complete a health screening (including two PPDs) on the Westchester Campus prior to beginning the externship. The health screening includes drug testing.
Externs will need to pass a background check before starting the externship.
New York Presbyterian requires a completed Affiliation Agreement with each student's program. Many of the local NYC metro area schools have an existing agreement with New York Presbyterian. If there is not an existing agreement, we will work with your program to create one.
When do you expect to begin interviews? We will accept applications between January 22nd and February 5th, 2019. Interviews will take place in mid-February.

Intervention training experiences offered:
Co-lead 2-3 CBT and DBT Groups per week in conjunction with the unit psychologist.
Conduct 2-3 brief, individual psychotherapy on an acute inpatient unit.
