Provide description of Externship: NYU Counseling and Wellness serves undergraduate and graduate students in the New York University Campus.
Externs have the opportunity to work 16-20 hours, see approximately 10-12 students per week for individual therapy, and receive one-to-one supervision (including observation), group supervision, didactic training, and attend staff meetings. Some opportunities to run group therapy and particpate in our crisis unit will depend on need.
Our staff is 40+ people strong with primary care, psychiatry, social workers, and psychologists. Students present in therapy with developmental issues of identity formation, sexual identity concerns, academic and behavior problems. We utilize both cognitive behavioral approaches as well as relational approaches depending on the students' presentation and immediate concerns.
