Description of Externship:
Selected externs will learn to administer, score, and interpret neuropsychological test batteries in adults undergoing inpatient and outpatient work-ups for a wide variety of neurological, general medical, and psychiatric conditions. There may be some opportunity to participate in research activities. Inpatient experiences will take place at the NYU Langone Hospital - Brooklyn located in Sunset Park. Outpatient experiences will be at the NYU Langone Brooklyn Medical Arts Pavilion located in Bay Ridge. The patient population presenting to the Brooklyn campus hospital and outpatient clinic is wide ranging in terms of neurological and psychiatric conditions. Patients are from extremely diverse ethnic, cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds; age range is ~18-90+.
Externs will attend case conferences and various didactic experiences at the NYU Langone Manhattan campus. The trip between campuses on the free NYULMC ferry takes approximately 30 minutes. Supervision of neuropsychology trainees in the adult track on the NYU Langone Brooklyn campus is provided by Alexander Chervinsky, PhD, ABPP. For additional questions regarding the Brooklyn campus training experience, contact Dr. Chervinsky (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Interested applicants should submit a cover letter and CV (including list of psychological/neuropsychological tests that have been administered) to the APA Externship portal. Two letters of recommendation can be emailed directly to Dr. Morrison from the writer or uploaded to the portal. Be sure to note that you are applying for the Adult Brooklyn track. Applicants may apply to multiple NYU Langone Department of Neurology tracks (Manhattan, Combined, and/or Brooklyn campuses) simultaneously.
