SUNY Downstate Medical Center - Children's Mental Health Center

Provide description of Externship:

The Children's Mental Health Center (formerly Infant and Child Learning Center) at SUNY Downstate provides Developmental, Neuropsychological, and Psychoeducational Evaluations as well as Individual and Family Therapy, and Advocacy. Many children are experiencing emotional, social and behavioral responses to their sense of failure at school, and they present as emotionally disturbed. The first step in evaluating school age children is to assess their ability to succeed in their current school placement. This includes reviewing Reports and IEPs. For school-age children (5 to 21 years of age), testing includes using the WJ IV ECAD, the W-J IV Cognitive, Oral, and Achievement Tests, NEPSY, WRAML, PPVT, etc. Graduates of the NICU and those diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder are evaluated at 12 months, 18-22 months, 3 years and 5 years of age, using the Bayley Scales of Infant Development, the WPPSI, and the WJ IV ECAD.
