Interviews will begin on 1/28/2019. Selected applicants will be contacted for a brief telephone interview. Finalists will be invited for an in-person interview with two of our senior psychologists. There are no group interviews. Applicants may be asked to present case material. The interview process will conclude on 2/25/2019.
Intervention and Assessment:
Externs are trained in conducting intake evaluations and are responsible for doing 4-6 intake evaluations during the year. The Counseling Center offers student walk-in hours to address immediate concerns and crises. Externs are trained in conducting brief evaluations and crisis management during student walk-in hours. Externs can expect to see a minimum of 6-8 students in ongoing weekly psychotherapy. If desired, externs may carry a larger caseload. The Student Counseling Center does not administer psychological testing and/or full assessment batteries. Externs will be trained to utilize assessment instruments such as the BDEFS and the CCAPS when clinically indicated. In addition to the clinical experience, externs have the opportunity to participate in student outreach and prevention workshops.
Externs participate in 3 hours of individual supervision per week with specialized senior psychologists. If desired, more than 3 hours of weekly face to face supervision is usually easily accommodated. Our 6 licensed psychologists provide eclectic theoretical perspectives. All supervision is offered in a supportive and growth promoting atmosphere. Supervision will include review of weekly therapy process and case formulation. The extern will select one case for intensive psychotherapy supervision with review of weekly audio recordings. Live supervision of intake evaluations will occur once per semester. Supervisors are available outside of supervision hours for additional consultation as needed.
Externs participate in a weekly conference/didactic seminar with team members. Additionally, externs will join trainees at the Rosemary Furman Counseling Center, Barnard College for a weekly didactic and case conference.
